Frequently Asked Questions

When do we recruit?
We recruit in the first month of both the Spring and Fall semesters. Be on the lookout for us at the club fair, on flyers, or the application link on our website and the SAS newsletters!

What is the time commitment for SIF members?
We hold weekly hour-long meetings, bi-monthly bonding events, extra meetings as necessary for certain projects, and onboarding curriculum sessions for all new members.

What are we looking for in applicants? 
We are looking for collaborative, articulate, and critically thinking applicants! SIF is an entirely team-based organization, so we focus heavily on commitment and enthusiasm. 

Do I have to have an investment background?
NO! We welcome people from all backgrounds. Our fund currently holds 9 different majors, and we deeply value the diversity of thought everyone brings to the fund. 

How does SIF give out funding? 
We fund student organizations, Scripps student-led initiatives, Scripps student employee groups, Scripps CLORGs, and 5C organizations. We prioritize Scripps organizations and students in the decision-making process by factoring in the total number of Scripps students when evaluating requests. We do not fund deficits in regular club activities.

We vote on the first Sunday of every month. Please see our Instagram (@scripps_sif) for exact dates at the start of each semester. 

Can I apply for individual funding?
Yes! If you are attending a pre-professional event, which may include conferences, job fairs, presenting research, or networking opportunities. While this opportunity is available to any Scripps student regardless of field of study, preference may be given to students attending an economics or finance-related event.
